The name Daido translates directly to "wide street" which, conveniently, is the main environment and sometimes even the subject for Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama (b. 1938). Taking photographs throughout the majority of his life, Moriyama's work is built on city exploration and an endless wandering as a means of transit.
The scanned photographic spreads below from The World through My Eyes depict a bombarded Moriyama triggered by various city street stimuli. Moriyama synthesizes the mystery of multiple realities that we encounter on a daily basis and reacts to them through his street photography.
"It is not that I have particular subjects, abstract or well-defined forms in mind-- they abound in the city and society..."
